Who Is the Aluminum Lady?

The Aluminum Lady is a satirical airline-executive character created and portrayed by Gailen David, a 24-year American Airlines veteran who was fired and sued by the airline over the parody in 2012. The suit was dropped and the dispute was settled in his favor. Today the character is a trademark, federal registration pending, and the star of As The Carousel Turns.

The character

On screen, the Aluminum Lady is a ruthless and unbothered corporate power broker. She ostensibly runs a lobbying group called Airlines for Airlines; in practice, she pulls the strings of every major U.S. carrier from her headquarters. In As The Carousel Turns, her satirical mockumentary series, she installs and fires chief executives, shifts blame for financial losses onto frontline flight attendants, scrambles to suppress union organizing campaigns, and manages one public-relations disaster after another, from viral passenger complaints to employees selling corporate-branded bag tags on eBay, all while keeping executive accountability at exactly zero. The tone never changes. The smile never wavers. That composure is the joke: she speaks the language of corporate leadership so fluently that audiences suddenly hear what it really sounds like.

What’s real

The 24-year airline career. The 2012 firing and lawsuit, covered by TIME, NBC, and Texas Monthly. The trademark, with federal registration pending. The journalism published at aluminumlady.com, which is sourced and verifiable.

What’s fiction

The Aluminum Lady herself, and every airline, executive, and agency in her universe, including Airlines for Airlines and Aluminum Airlines. The satire targets institutions and industry behavior, never individual workers or passengers.
